The PEGASUS Research programme aims to co-design a peer supported well-being programme to enable those of us with long-term mental health problems (such as Bipolar and Schizophrenia) who take anti-psychotic medications and so are at higher risk of struggling with our physical health (type II diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease) to get better access to help and support and bring down these risks to our physical health.
PEGASUS Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) will contribute to co-production of the initial 3-year, with planned extension to a 5-year research programme working alongside the research team.
They are looking for:
LEAG will be made up of adults (18+) who have experience of:
– living with long term mental health problems (essential)
- using secondary care mental health services e.g., CMHT
- having a diagnosis of schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder
- taking anti-psychotic medications
– physical health checks for people with mental health problems
- onward referrals to exercise/diet/wellbeing support
having & managing symptoms of health conditions including;
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- concerns about high cholesterol, blood pressure or weight
– peer support (using, leading and/or developing peer support)
– well-being support for physical health needs
– delivering and supporting survivor research
– being part of large, co-produced research programmes
– caring for someone with long term mental health problems
– being part of underserved groups or communities e.g.
- people from racialised backgrounds
- people who are autistic or neurodivergent
- people who have co-existing disabilities
- people who identify as LGBTQIA+
- people with care experience (previously a looked after child)
- people on a low income
