The James Lind Alliance Digital Technologies for Independent Living Priority Setting Partnership, led by the Centre for Care at the University of Sheffield, is identifying the most important unanswered research questions about digital technologies for care and support.
The team is now running its second survey and asking people to help decide which of 36 questions should be prioritised for future research. The final outcome will be a Top 10 list of research priorities about digital technologies for living independently at home and in the community.
The team would like to hear from:
- People with lived experience of drawing on care and support
- Unpaid carers and other family supporters
- Care workers and community support workers
- Social care professionals
- People working for organisations that support or advocate for any of these groups
They particularly want to hear from people who draw on care and support themselves, as well as voices that may currently be less represented, including men and people from younger and older age groups. People do not need to be technology experts. Experiences of technology being difficult, inaccessible, unhelpful or simply not right for someone are just as important as positive experiences.
Expected commitment from participants:
- This is a one-off online survey with two main questions and optional demographic questions
- Participants will look at a list of 36 unanswered research questions and identify which they think are most important for future research
- There are no meetings or ongoing commitment required
The survey is available in three formats so that people can choose the version that best meets their needs:
- Standard Survey
- Easy Read Survey
- Screen Reader Accessible Survey
Responses can be anonymous and no specialist knowledge of digital technology is needed to take part. The project is particularly keen to hear from people whose experiences and perspectives may otherwise be underrepresented in decisions about future digital care research.
Closing date to apply: Thursday 8 October 2026
