The University of Leicester is doing research about statistical methods. This research helps them to improve how they do research. It informs the way research studies are designed and data are analysed. It can help them to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat health conditions. It is important that members of the public are involved in this type of research. But this can be difficult because this type of research is very technical. It is often a step removed from direct patient benefit. In a survey, many statisticians did not feel confident and said that they needed guidance. You can find out more about involvement in statistical methodology research here: https://leicesterbrc.nihr.ac.uk/ppismart/ppismart-animation/

The University of Leicester is looking for six people with prior experience of getting involved in research. You will join an advisory board to support a new project called ‘How do we achieve successful public involvement and engagement in statistical methodology research?’

They are looking for people with prior experience of being involved in:

  • Studies about statistical research methods OR
  • Studies that do not have direct patient benefit but improve the way research is conducted OR
  • Studies with a statistical component, including clinical trials

You are expected to attend 6 remote meetings over the next 2 years.

Closing date to apply: Monday 4th August 2025

When emailing Julie Roberts to apply, please include answers to the following questions:

  • How long have you been involved in research for?
  • What type of research have you been involved in? Please give examples.
  • What interests you about this project?
  • If you are not selected for this role, may we contact you about other ways to get involved in the future?
  • What is the best way to contact you?

The team will use this information to invite some people to have a brief chat with the research team about the role. They want the advisory group to include people with different types of experience.

The team is committed to overcoming barriers to participation. Please contact them to discuss your access and support needs.
