The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is looking for Public Members to help them assess funding applications for health and social care research. They are particularly looking for people with lived experience and/or a good understanding of patient and public involvement in research. This could include experience in reviewing applications, working with researchers, being part of a research study, or serving on committees or advisory groups.

This is a great opportunity to:

  • influence the research they fund, how research is conducted, and how it impacts on diverse communities
  • develop your knowledge on health and social care research, connecting you to further involvement opportunities  in research
  • develop skills in public speaking, assessing and providing constructive feedback, and collaborative working
  • access relevant training, for example how to review a research funded application
  • build relationships and network with people from various backgrounds and a wide range of skills

Applications are open to people from across the United Kingdom and they welcome applications from all backgrounds and communities. They particularly encourage applications from people aged 18-40, who are currently underrepresented across NIHR committees and panels.
