This workshop is part of a bigger research project on Lived Experience Collaborations in Mental Health Research. The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and carried out by a partnership of researchers from the Centre for Evidence and Implementation (CEI), lived experience experts from the Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN), independent lived experience consultants, and academic consultants from the Universities of Oxford and Hertfordshire.
Informed by this consultation workshop, surveys will explore perspectives across individuals in project teams supported by Wellcome (Principal Investigators, research staff, LE collaborators, and co-leads) to understand their experiences related to lived experience involvement in research, the opportunities and challenges faced, as well as the processes which led to meaningful engagement and impact. Following this workshop, discussions (i.e. interviews) with individuals from currently funded Wellcome project teams will allow for more in-depth exploration of how LE collaboration leads to impact, as well as challenges faced and strategies to overcome these.
CEI and GMHPN are inviting 8 LE experts (18+ years old) who have collaborated (i.e. LE experts and researchers working together to share their knowledge, help plan and understand the research, and make sure that people’s lived experiences are included and valued) in mental health research to take part in an online workshop. They are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience in developing or reviewing interview and/or survey questions. If so, they would love to hear from you!
They are looking for people with lived experience of mental distress / mental health conditions who: Â
- Have been involved in mental health research (e.g. as peer researchers, collaborators, advisors, consultants, steering group member, worked with research teams etc.)
- Are interested in reflecting on past involvement and sharing lessons learned from their experience(s)
- Have experience in, or would be interested in co-creating and reviewing tools for mental health research projects (i.e. survey questions)
- Can attend and contribute to the 3-hour workshop and complete the pre-workshop tasks (reading and completing a short online activity) in advance of the workshop (estimated length 1 hour)
Expected commitment from participants:
- Commitment: 4 hours in total. 1 hour of pre-workshop tasks (reading and an online reflective activity) and a 3-hour workshop
- Date: Thursday, 25 September 2025
- Time: 10:00am–1:00pm BST (with 30-minute break included)
- Format: Online via Zoom
Wellcome funds mental health research in many different countries and areas of mental health research and they are hoping to form a group that reflects that diversity. CEI and GMHPN are collecting personal demographic data to help ensure a diverse group of attendees in terms of age, gender, and race/ethnicity, and to enable us to anonymously describe the group in their reporting.
If you have any questions about this information, need assistance with the application form, have accessibility needs, IT support needs or require any adjustments to help you participate fully in this online workshop you can contact CEI researcher India Thompson at india.thompson@ceiglobal.org
They will consider each request for reasonable adjustments individually and accommodate where at all practically possible.
Closing date to apply: September 10th 2025
